CHANDRA SHEKHAR SINGH FOUNDATION

The Chandra Shekhar Singh Foundation is built on a simple yet powerful belief: India’s farmers deserve better. Agriculture, despite being the backbone of the Indian economy, continues to be one of its most distressed sectors. Recent reports show that over 80% of marginal farmers have suffered severe crop losses due to erratic climatic changes like unseasonal rain and droughts. The economic toll is devastating—over 11,000 farmer suicides were reported in 2022 alone, the highest in five years. At the root of these struggles lies a system stacked against the farmer: a lack of storage and transportation infrastructure forces them to sell their harvests immediately, often to middlemen who pay less than fair prices. With limited access to markets, farmers remain trapped in a cycle of poverty and vulnerability.

At Chandra Shekhar Singh Foundation, we are working to change this reality. Our initiatives are focused on empowering farmers with knowledge and access. We provide hands-on training in sustainable and organic farming techniques, helping them reduce dependence on costly chemical inputs and restore soil health. We guide them on how to make and use organic fertilizers using local resources, cutting costs and increasing yields. Equally important, we equip farmers with the skills to market their own produce directly—whether through local networks, farmer markets, or digital platforms—eliminating the need for middlemen and ensuring fair prices. Financial literacy and awareness about government support schemes are key parts of our programs, as is training in climate-resilient agriculture practices to help farmers adapt to the changing environment.

Vision

To transform rural livelihoods through hands-on farmer training, sustainable agri-practices, and community-led economic models that put farmers at the center of development.

Mission

Our vision is to create a generation of farmers who are self-reliant, knowledgeable, and empowered to lead their communities. We are transforming the way farming is practiced and how produce reaches the market.

Founder’s Message

At the heart of India’s fields lies the spirit of our nation — its farmers. The Chandra Shekhar Singh Foundation was established to honour their labor and restore dignity to agriculture. We have seen generations of farmers trapped in unfair systems, underpaid and undervalued. Our mission is to change that not with charity, but with knowledge, empowerment, and opportunity. By training farmers in sustainable practices and helping them access markets directly, we’re working to make agriculture self-reliant and respected again. Every initiative we take is a step toward a future where farmers thrive, not just survive.

Director's Message

The Chandra Shekhar Singh Foundation stands with farmers who are ready to reclaim control over their land, produce, and future. Today, they face climate uncertainty, market exploitation, and rising costs. We are addressing this through hands-on training in organic farming, low-cost bio-fertilizers, and direct marketing techniques. Our goal is to eliminate middlemen, increase incomes, and build resilience in rural communities. We believe empowered farmers can transform not just their livelihoods, but the entire food system of India.

Growing up in a farming household, I saw both the pride and the pain that comes with it. Even today, decades later, the struggles remain the same: unstable prices, unreliable inputs, and declining soil health. The Chandra Shekhar Singh Foundation was born from a need to change this reality, not through charity, but by enabling self-sufficiency. We’re not here to replace the system, but to strengthen it. Government schemes offer great promise but they need last-mile execution and local champions. That’s where CSSF steps in. We equip farmers with practical tools, knowledge, and confidence to take ownership of their produce and prosperity.

For too long, farmers have remained on the margins. Their hands feeding the nation, yet their own plates are uncertain. The Chandra Shekhar Singh Foundation exists to rewrite this paradox. We believe agriculture is not just a livelihood, it is dignity, culture, and national strength. Our mission is clear: support farmers in adopting practices that are environmentally sustainable and economically viable. By promoting decentralized solutions, we’re making agriculture less dependent on external forces and more resilient from within.

Our work at Chandra Shekhar Singh Foundation stems from a deep belief that India’s future lies in its villages, and the soul of its villages lies in its farmers. If we want to secure food for the next generation, we must begin by restoring faith and resources in those who grow it. Farmers are not asking for sympathy, they are asking for support, access, and recognition. We aim to be a bridge, connecting them with markets, government schemes, research, and even global innovations in sustainable farming. This Foundation carries forward the legacy of Chandra Shekhar Singh not just in name, but in spirit: courageous, people-centric, and transformative.
